Programs - StarSkate and Adult

The Riverview Skating Club offers a variety of programs from Learn to Skate to competitive. These programs are competitively priced and are run by qualified and registered Skate Canada professional coaches.

Each skater who registers with the Club is required to pay the Skate Canada Membership Registration Fee. The fee is $32.00 payable once per year with membership year Sept 1 -Aug 31 and covers the cost of liability insurance and helps to offset some of our program costs. This fee is mandatory for anyone registering in any Skate Canada Club. For more info on benefits of Skate Canada Registration, go to the Skate Canada Nova Scotia website http://www.skating.ns.ca .

StarSkate

Skaters are taught through group, semi-private or private lessons with a professional coach. Skaters choose sessions they wish to skate. StarSkate fees include ice time, Professional coach run stroking session, Monthly club newsletters and handouts. Participation in club activities and Ice show at no extra cost. All lessons are arranged by the parent / skater and fees for coaching are paid directly to the coach.

Juniors

The junior program is for skaters working on Skate Canada tests up to and including the Preliminary Freeskate Test. Skaters learn the fundamentals of figure skating, on-ice etiquette, and will likely begin attending competitions, performing their first solo free skate and interpretive programs. Skaters also begin to prepare for preliminary testing in Ice Dance, Skills and Free Skating. Junior skaters are also highly encouraged to participate in our Learn to Skate programs by becoming or continuing as Program Assitants.

Session times and fees (per 10 week session): Monday 4:20 - 5:50 ($90), Wednesday 4:15- 5:15 ($80), Saturday 9:45-11:40 ($100). Register for all 3 days plus a stroking session and get a 10$ discount.

Seniors

Once skaters have successfully completed the Preliminary Free Skate test, they progress to the senior program. By this time they are fully aware of the on-ice environment and continue to progress through testing from the Junior Bronze up to Gold levels as well as competing locally, provincially and, with hard work and commitment, nationally. Skaters who posess particular skill and aptitude can enter the Competitive stream which would prepare them for High-level provincial, regional, national and international competition. It is from the ranks of the senior skaters that the Club draws the majority of its Program Assitants (PAs), the backbone of the PreSchool CanSkate and CanSkate programs. For more information on becoming a PA, click on the Volunteer Opportunities link.

Sessions are held in conjunction with our Junior session on Saturdays and our senior session on Wednesdays. Skaters participate in stroking sessions and receive individual or group lessons from a professional coach.

Synchronized Skating

Synchronized Skating - also known as Synchro. Figure Skating's only TEAM discipline, Synchronized Skating is a growing part of figure skating that encourages teamwork, friendship, and improving at figure skating skills. Synchronized skating consists of a group of about 8 - 18 figure skaters skating on the ice at one time. They work together as one unit performing a program set to a fun piece of music; the skaters do formations which include circles, lines, blocks, wheels, and intersections. The team skates together using various holds which include basic shoulder holds, hooking elbows, hand holds, basket weave holds, and not holding at all. They do moves like spirals, lunges, shoot the ducks, pivots, and pass throughs all at once. Does this sound like fun!

Join in on this dynamic dimension to the world of recreational and competitive skating. There are so many benefits to participating in a team sport, and synchronized skating is a great way for figure skaters to compete in a sport they love while enjoying all of the aspects of working with others in a team-oriented sport.

The Development Synchro Team fees are per 8 week session. The Elementary /Juvenile and Pre-Novice / Novice Synchro Teams are based on 24 week session. Sept - March.
