Programs - Learn to Skate
The Riverview Skating Club offers a variety of programs from Learn to Skate to competitive. These programs are competitively priced and are run by qualified and registered Skate Canada professional coaches.
Each skater who registers with the Club is required to pay the Skate Canada Membership Registration Fee. The fee is $30.00 payable once per year with membership year Sept 1 -Aug 31 and covers the cost of liability insurance and helps to offset some of our program costs. This fee is mandatory for anyone registering in any club registered with Skate Canada. For more info on benefits of Skate Canada Registration, go to the Skate Canada website.

Preschool CanSkate
A preschool program designed for 3 and 4 year olds. 5min off-ice warm up and 30min of on-ice instruction per day. Children are taught to skate with an active play format. A professional coach as well as program assistants is on the ice at all times. The sessions mix fun and play on the ice through games and creative exercises. Various theme days are planned through the year. Skaters will not be tested for badges in this program but will receive other incentives through the season. On completion of program skaters receive a certificate and will be encouraged to move into our mainstream CanSkate Program.
IMPORTANT - please note that all skaters must wear a helmet, preferably a CSA approved hockey/skating helmet, in order to skate in this program. Parents, however well-intentioned, are not permitted on the ice during PreSchool CanSkate sessions, unless they are volunteering as a Program Assistant.

Junior Development
Known previously as Pre-Preliminary, this program is intended as a "bridge" program between the CanSkate and StarSkate programs and offers instruction in skills beyond those taught in the CanSkate program. Lessons are conducted in groups under the oversight of a professional coach. Skaters learn more advanced spinning and jumping techniques and are exposed to stroking, field skills such as 3-turns and mohawks, preliminary ice dances and learn the on-ice rules and etiquette. It is usually in the Junior Development program where skaters are introduced to developing free-skate solos with an eye to showing their abilities in a competetive environment.
Once Skaters reach the Junior Development level, and if they have demonstrated the interest and maturity, they are eligible to receive training and begin assisting with CanSkate as Assistant Program Assistants.
Mondays 5:30-5:50 and Saturdays 9:45-10:45. 8 week program 1day/week $75, 2 days/week $130.
