RSC logo

The Riverview Spring Invivtational is a competition hosted and run by the volunteers and skaters of the Riverview Skating Club and is open to any skater who is a member in good standing of Skate Canada.

This year's invitational was held on April 18th, with over 100 skaters from about a dozen different clubs in Nova Scotia, New Bruswick and PEI.The first skaters took to the ice at about 8:30AM Saturday morning and the event concluded at about 9:30 that evening with the presentation of the Club Spirit Trophy to CPA Shippegan NB.The Club Sprit Trophy is given to the club whose members demonstrate the most enthusiasm, support and sense of fair play throughout the day, with input solicited from all of the participants, supporters and the volunteers at the rink that weekend.

Events

The competition features events ranging in level from CanSkate solos to Competitive freeskating, dance and interpretive events and just about everything in between. Medal presentations are held off-ice for most of the day, outside when weather permits, with the final presentations being made on-ice. We have a bake table, the skaters' favorite - the bubble gum draw, and displays where you can purchase skating supplies. The event is videotaped by Bruce Dempsey, who will be selling DVDs of the various events at the rink, and and there will be a professional photographer on site who will be happy to take photos of the skaters. In addition to the Club Spirit Trophy mentioned above, we also award the "President's Trophy" which is based on the club whose skaters earn the highest total points based on finishing positions in each event. 5 points are awarded for a first-place finish, three for second and one for third. If any event has only one entry, no points are awarded for that event. The current holders of the President's trophy are the St. Margaret's Bay Skating Club.

Planning for next year's competition are already underway. The announcement for next years event should be ready around the same time as StarSkate provincials . Accomodations in the Brooklyn area are limited but there is a new Super 8 hotel and a number of Bed'n' Breakfast estalishments in nearby Windsor, about 15 minutes drive to the rink. Detailed directions to the rink are available here. The word is out, Riverview is a great place to spend a weekend in April!
