Events
The competition features events ranging in level from CanSkate solos to Senior freeskating, dance and interpretive events and just about everything in between. Medal presentations are held off-ice for most of the day, outside when weather permits, with the final presentations being made on-ice. We have a bake table, the skaters' favorite - the bubble gum draw, and displays where you can pruchase skating supplies. The event is videotaped by Bruce Dempsey, who will be selling DVDs of the various events at the rink, and and there will be a professional photographer on site who will be happy to take photos of the skaters. In addition to the Club Spirit Trophy mentioned above, we also award the "President's Trophy" which is based on the club whose skaters earn the highest total points based on finishing positions in each event. 5 points are awarded for a first-place finish, three for second and one for third. If any event has only one entry, no points are awarded for that event. The current holders of the President's trophy are the Shearwater Skating Club.
The announcement is available here and we hope soon on the the Skate Canada Nova Scotia website. It is anticipated that a limited amount of practice ice may be available on the 18th, details will be published once the schedule takes firmer shape. Accomodations in the Brooklyn area are limited but there is a new Super 8 hotel and a number of Bed'n' Breakfast estalishments in nearby Windsor, about 15 minutes drive to the rink. Detailed directions to the rink will be provided once as the entry deadline approaches. The word is out, Riverview is a great place to spend a weekend in April!
